Toastie Food Challenge

Found this challenge in amongst Shelli’s drafts so I am now publishing this Toastie Food Challenge to Brendan, her cousin….Betty Whitehurst.

…………………………………………………………………………………………

The humble toastie has made a resurgence in the Melbourne cafe scene. But there is the argument of when is a toastie a toastie?

  •  Jaffle-style where sliced bread is filled and then heated and sealed between two metal surfaces, to prevent leaks.
  • Sandwich maker style so you can squish in more ingredients and flat-iron.
  • Grilled cheese done in a skillet/frypan.
  • Or just the bread toasted with fillings added later. (Love avocado but not toasted!!)

When it comes to food chat if my cuz and I are not talking donuts then we chat toasties! I celebrate the arrival of my latest online purchase Darren Purchese’s latest book Chefs Eat Toasties Too with a toastie challenge to my cuz Brendan for his favourite toast filling, how he makes it and how he toasts it/grilled/frypan or sandwich maker or toast the bread then add the ingredients?

Looking for some jaffle inspiration check out myfoodbook for both savoury and sweet!
